Elodie Michelot is proudly carrying on her family’s legacy and putting her own stamp on Domaine Alain Michelot’s signature traditional Burgundies. The fourth generation since 1880 to run the estate, Elodie has taken over for her father, Alain. Beautifully tended vineyards and impeccably tidy cellars became the hallmark for anyone who visited Alain’s estate and Elodie has ensured this approach will continue.
The Michelot’s are nothing if not methodical. It all starts in the family vineyards—8 acres, over half of which are Premier Cru. Most are located in Nuits-Saint-Georges, but the family has smaller holdings in Morey Saint Denis and Clos Vougeot. Elodie has already made her own improvements to these vines, putting an emphasis on lower yields. From here, the grapes are 90% destemmed and begin a long and slow vinification process. New wood barrels are used for roughly a third of the wines and no racking occurs for the next 20 months, producing very fine tannins. Domaine Alain Michelot wines are bottled filtered, but not fined.
Often overlooked by those stateside, Domaine Alain Michelot is one to watch.
