Nestled in the northernmost village of the Côte de Nuits, Domaine Bart is a family-run estate located in Marsannay, a small but fascinating appellation in Bourgogne. With deep roots in the region, the Bart family has been crafting wines which express the unique terroir of this cool-climate area for generations. The estate spans approximately 22 hectares of vineyards, with plots across Marsannay, Fixin, and Gevrey-Chambertin, where the focus is primarily on Pinot Noir.
Marsannay holds a special distinction as the only appellation in Bourgogne to produce red, white, and rosé wines under its AOC designation. Domaine Bart embraces this diversity, producing a range of wines which reflect the versatility of the region. While the estate is particularly celebrated for its expressive and elegant Pinot Noirs, its rosé is also highly regarded, with a unique history as it was originally crafted for French royalty and is sometimes referred to as the “rosé of kings.”
The domaine’s holdings include prestigious vineyard sites, such as “Les Champs Salomon” in Marsannay and plots in the famous Grand Cru Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze, which are sold under the Hospices de Beaune label. Marsannay’s diverse terroir, with limestone-rich soils, imparts structure, minerality, and freshness to the wines. The Bart family practices lutte raisonnée (sustainable viticulture), minimizing chemical intervention to respect the environment and enhance the natural quality of their grapes. Their wines offer a glimpse into Burgundy’s rich winemaking history without requiring the investment of a Grand Cru.
