Claudie Jobard’s upbringing provided her with the perfect terroir. With an enologist mother, a nurseryman father and wonderful plots on both sides of her family, it is no wonder she has become such a well-rounded and captivating winemaker.
Her mother, Laurence Jobard, quite notably broke through the glass ceiling of the French wine industry in the 1970’s. She was hired to be the enologist—unheard of for a woman at that time—for the renowned Maison Joseph Drouhin. Under her watchful eye for three decades, the winery put out a remarkable series of vintages. Laurence also took over the family estate alongside her sister as seventh generation winemakers. Claudie now represents the eighth generation and took after her mother, becoming an enologist and graduated from the International Organization of Vine and Wine.
The family vine nurseries in Demigny have run in the family for 60 years and produces over 700,000 vines. Her father, Roger Jobard, used the knowledge he acquired as a nurseryman to begin his own vineyard in Rully—meticulously selecting the vines best suited to the terroir. It comes as no surprise that Claudie is of the mindset that the most important part of the wine making process occurs in the fields themselves. The vineyards of Domaine Claudie Jobard are spread across both Côte Chalonnaise and Côte de Beaune. The estate is certified organic and utilize a novel technique known as “single-row,” which allows individual vines soak up more sunshine and achieve better rooting.
Following in the footsteps of both her mother and father, but also forging her own path, Claudie Jobard produces some of the most rich and delicate wines out of the region.
