Situated in the picturesque village of Chaintré in the Mâconnais region of southern Bourgogne, Domaine Mathias is a family-run estate with a winemaking heritage spanning six generations. Specializing in Chardonnay, they focus on the small but prestigious Pouilly-Vinzelles appellation, a hidden gem adjacent to the better-known Pouilly-Fuissé.

Since 2010, Domaine Mathias has embraced organic farming, a decision that underscores their commitment to preserving the environment while enhancing the authenticity and quality of their wines. The estate’s vineyards, located on gentle, south-facing slopes, benefit from optimal sunlight and ripening conditions. Their flagship wine, Pouilly-Vinzelles Les Longeays, is celebrated for its elegant harmony of ripe stone fruits like peach and apricot, vibrant acidity, and subtle mineral notes imparted by the region’s limestone-rich soils.

Today, siblings Béatrice and Gilles Mathias lead the domaine, blending modern practices with their family’s long-standing traditions. They prioritize sustainability and natural vinification, allowing their wines to undergo natural fermentation, which showcases the true character of the grapes and terroir.
