Domaine Sottimano

Domaine Sottimano is a family-run estate rooted in the village of Neive in the Barbaresco appellation of Piedmont. The story begins with Rino Sottimano who acquired vineyards in the late 1960s, and today his children Andrea, Elena and Claudia carry the torch. The estate covers roughly 19–20 hectares of prized Barbaresco vineyards—among them the crus of Cottà, Currà, Fausoni, Pajoré and Basarin.

What defines the Sottimano style is a rooted belief in letting terroir speak. The vineyards sit on diverse soils—limestone, marl, sand and clay—and the team follows organic or near-organic viticulture with minimal intervention in the cellar. The wines are fermented with indigenous yeasts, matured in large oak or neutral barrels, and bottled with little to no fining or filtration.

These choices translate into wines that express site and time clearly. For example, the Barbaresco “Cottà” shows red and black fruit and notes of mint; the “Pajoré” brings a limestone-driven purity and fine tannins; and the “Currà” offers structure and depth for those who enjoy wines built to mature. Beyond Barbaresco the domaine also produces Dolcetto, Barbera and a Langhe Nebbiolo from declassified fruit, widening its appeal without diluting its focus on place and nuance.
